Wabasha’s Artists On Main Street Initiative

Wabasha Main Street Artist program is a three year program for local creative minds.

Wabasha’s Artist on Main 2021 is looking for artists and creatives in the Wabasha Area. Do you want to share your creative talents with the community? We are seeking up to 8 artist-led projects, programs or installations to be showcased this summer and fall in historic downtown Wabasha Main Street District if you meet the following criteria:

  1. If you consider yourself an artist, maker or creative
  2. Live or work within the 20-mile radius

This year’s Theme for 2021 will be Healthy Community

We are looking for any Artist lead program that depicts a healthy community as we come out of the pandemic and find inspiration in becoming healthier as a person and community. All artists must partner with a local organization, business or city park to place temporary or permanent installations in the downtown Main Street District. Proposals will be due May 28th and funding and projects will be selected June 1st . This is the third and final year of our Artist on Main Initiative.

It’s an opportunity for all individuals living and working within the 20 mile radius of Wabasha to get involved in creating a sense of place in downtown Wabasha. Each artist will be giving us their Wabasha story through their art discipline. We will award 8 artists up to $1000 each for their arts based program or project.

Healthy Community is Wabasha’s Artist on Main Street initiative, through Minnesota Main Street with funding from RETHOS and Springboard for the Arts, as well as support from the Bush Foundation.

To create activity and installations of any art form and draw locals along with visitors to enjoy art from the Mississippi Riverfront through downtown, including all of our green spaces, empty storefronts, parks, alleys, and galleries.

This artist-led Placemaking initiative is meant to be varied from passive to interactive installations, exhibits, programming, and events which include a broad section of Wabasha’s population from youth to seniors.

All events are free of charge and are outside or inside a gallery space in the Wabasha Main Street District – our historic downtown area.
