2021 Artists on Main Street Information

This year’s Theme was Healthy Community

We were looking for any Artist-led programs that depicted a healthy community as we came out of the pandemic and found inspiration in becoming healthier as a person and community. All artists had to partner with a local organization, business, or city park to place temporary or permanent installations in the downtown Main Street District. This was the third and final year of our Artist on Main Initiative.

It’s an opportunity for all individuals living and working within the 20 mile radius of Wabasha to get involved in creating a sense of place in downtown Wabasha. Each artist will be giving us their Wabasha story through their art discipline. We will award 8 artists up to $1000 each for their arts based program or project.

Healthy Community is Wabasha’s Artist on Main Street initiative, through Minnesota Main Street with funding from RETHOS and Springboard for the Arts, as well as support from the Bush Foundation.

To create activity and installations of any art form and draw locals along with visitors to enjoy art from the Mississippi Riverfront through downtown, including all of our green spaces, empty storefronts, parks, alleys, and galleries.

This artist-led Placemaking initiative is meant to be varied from passive to interactive installations, exhibits, programming, and events which include a broad section of Wabasha’s population from youth to seniors.

All events are free of charge and are outside or inside a gallery space in the Wabasha Main Street District – our historic downtown area.
